Microsoft announces SideWinder X4 game keyboard

Quote:
We've seen higher-end gaming keyboards from both Logitech and Razer that claim to have solved the ghosting problem. Some more affordable keyboards even boast "selective anti-ghosting" on the WASD keys that many PC gamers use. Microsoft's new SideWinder X4 gaming keyboard may be the first to offer all-key anti-ghosting at an affordable price.

I read this and thought... "WTF is KB ghosting ?" Then I read this...

Quote:
Ghosting, if you're unfamiliar, is the tendency for standard keyboards to lose track of key presses when you're already holding down another key.

Quote:
SideWinder X4 allows you to press up to 26 keys at the same time.

Then I thought... "I have ten fingers."

It's a slick looking KB with lots of nice buttons... I mean the ones aside from the KB buttons. I tell you though, I've had a few fancy keyboards, and the KB I like the most is my old standard off white PS2 plug model. No HID driver to fail, no USB polling...it just works.

I didn't know what it was called, but I have run into the ghosting problem in the past. Like when your moving in a crouched position and then jump up.

The price tag on this KB is NOT terrible... Will be interesting to tune in for some reviews after it's been around for a lil' while.

Same here Chaos. I like my G15.

I have never really had any success with Razer products and that's who is building these "Gaming Products" for M$.

Of course you LIKE your G15. To admit anything else after lumping that kind of cash down on a KB would be embarrassing in the extreme ! lol Laughing

That statement just isn't fair Jag. I've paid a lot more for a lot less than I got with the G15. I've used dozens of boards, and some were right up there with the G15, Hell, some were better in a few places. G15 is good at almost everything. Best all around board I've ever used. Well worth the $79 I paid at BB

Was just joking... and pulling on Sling's chain. Wink It humors me to no end to see him rattled over something like that comment. You can see the sweat bead up on his forehead and all... Very Happy

I paid pretty good money for a Saitek KB and it's damned nice... I always liked it a lot.... but get this, it doesn't play nice with other Saitek products, so I don't use it.

Games get confused by it's HID driver and the driver for the wheel or Joystick I have from Saitek... endlessly frustrating, and for products that individually I really enjoy.

So, in the world of embarrassing product expenditures, I'm right there myself.

I'm not a big fan of fancy KB's really, though I do appreciate some features. Mostly things that I'd like to see in any KB, but don't get. Fast, multi-key response, as is advertised in the MS KB above, a good tactile feedback from the keys. Nice risers for angle, that don't fall down when you move the KB around and I like the backlit keys if it can be adjusted or turned off when I want.

I'd rather not have special buttons that really only emulate multi-key presses...volume controls, etc... and I don't care to have a LCD display.

I didn't really know you were pulling my chain specifically. I was just agreeing with Chaos.

I have owned many keyboards that cost over $100 and the only ones I have that still work are the Logitechs. That's all I was basing my opinion on. My Saitek like yours died and so did the Razer I had.

I learned a long time ago that with Keyboards, Mice, Joysticks, and Racing Wheels Logitech is probably your best bet.

The Saitek I have still works like new... I just can't use it and the wheel at the same time. The games think the damned KB is the game controller.

It's ridiculous that two products from the same company won't function together.

I won't buy anything from Saitek anymore... expecially now that they've been bought by MadCatz.
