Well I was thinking about buying that program CS4 and seen the price, lmao, I about fell out of my chair when I seen that the cheapest cost is $671. Why? If I had a student ID I would only have to pay $200 approximately. Jag would most likely know, am I looking at the right thing? 2 of my friends use that and I cannot believe they paid that for it, then they added Lightroom and a noise ware program for same to boot, so I am guessing they have at least 1k tied up in this. I guess I will have to stick with my $79 dollar Corel program for now and save, then when I get that amount saved, most likely go and buy something else ha. |

This is all you would ever need for image manipulation. Be sure to look trough the tutorials section of the website as well as on Youtube... the software is a little daunting at first, no more so than Photoshop by any means, but you can handle it if you're willing to read some instructions and watch a few videos.
The program is easily on par with CS4 and in some ways superior.
Cost..... $0

The Faststone is really nice for anyone that has photos of any kind. It's great for categorizing and flipping through a ton of images. _________________ Jagou

Thanks for all the links Jag, I think I will be downloading Faststone to categorize images. The other one is just like the new Corel Pro 3, which is on discount for 59.99 till Sunday, it has some sweet upgrades, I just wish I could snatch up CS4, it is the cost of a camera or a darn fine lens is all. The new Corel should over lay mine (has some kewl options), however I like to have the hard disk indeed on programs, wish I had one for Photomatix, would burn it and send it to you lmao. |

The Gimp is almost nothing like Corel's product. The Gimp is by far a more complex and capable program. Corel's pro photo line is good software. I wouldn't mind having a copy myself, but it's no where even near CS4 or the GIMP.
It's comparable to Adobe's 'Elements' line of photo editing software. _________________ Jagou

The GIMP having more fatures, doesn't necessarily mean it's a better software package FOR YOU... Corel's Pro Photo 3 is really damned nice. It's far simpler and nice for quick easy edits.
It lacks a lot of the features, plugins and masking, layer capabilities of the more sophisticated softwares.
But... the GIMP is free. So there's no reason to NOT try it. Again, as I mentioned in the original post, be sure to check out the video tutorials, or you may find yourself lost.
It's a program with a pretty serious learning curve. _________________ Jagou
