One of the best damn movies ive seen in a long long time, sci-fi based.

Has romance, becoming a man stuff, betrayal, finding ones self, combat, destruction, and so much more. Very good movie, well worth it to go see.

James Cameron is one hell of a person, and the movie is just full of life and out of this world footage.

Well what the hell you still doing here, go see it Wink

yea I saw it in imax 3d and it is a great movie, the visuals alone are worth the price. The story will make you think about humans in general. Some people will think that the movie is polical.... but come on it's a movie and it is speaking the truth. Go see it!!!!

We're gonna see it here in a couple of days.

It's common for a film to carry a political message... right back to the first movies. Political agendas are pushed in every facet of the media... tis' human nature to express and attempt to popularize our individual views.

I would hesitate to call much of anything the 'truth' these days.

Mmm... Olivia !

Avatar was awesome... 3D @ the Imax is the only way to see it. Thought it was gonna be gimmicky, and it was NOT. It was very impressive.

The story was no better than standard Hollywood fare... typical bad editing and non-linear storytelling.

However, it is hands down the best CG to be seen in any film to date. Several steps ahead of anything else I've ever seen.

My wife keeps bugging me to go see Avatar, so we're probably going tonight. I haven't been very enthusiastic about going. Seen the trailers and have been feeling kind of cold about it. Couldn't put my finger on why though. Just finished reading a review and it clicked as to what I had seen in the trailers that seemed to be bothering me.

http://www.thestar.com/entertainment/article/760842--avatar-s-triumph-is-america-s-defeat

Quote:
...the Avatar melancholy I feel stems from the film's brutal aspect, in particular its view of Americans. Contrary to his stated desire to unite us all in planetary love, Cameron has created a movie that could set back international relations by a couple of light years or so.

In the crudest of terms, he depicts Americans as rapers and pillagers of the galaxy. Everybody else is a victim. The worst prejudices are reinforced. How does this possibly contribute to global harmony? What happened to the new era of hope and change?

U.S. corporations are represented by Giovanni Ribisi's Parker Selfridge, a company boss that wants to strip Pandora of trees to get the valuable mineral "unobtainium." His last name sounds like "selfish."

The U.S. military is made flesh by Stephen Lang's Col. Miles Quaritch, a homicidal maniac who has no respect for the Na'vi, the nature-loving native Pandorans. He would sooner drive a tank over them than talk to them.

The Na'vi, typified by Zoë Saldana's brave and noble warrior Neytiri, just want to be left alone to commune with trees and attend to their own affairs. It takes no imagination at all to compare the Na'vi to the people of Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam or anywhere else where America has taken interventionist action.

Cameron does allow a few moderates into his film. Sam Worthington's heroic ex-Marine Jake Sully, the scientists led by Sigourney Weaver and Michelle Rodriguez's principled flygirl all show Americans in a better light. But they have to completely side with the Na'vi to prove their worth. The message is that only Americans who repent and redeem themselves have any value.

As a patriot and retired military, I am so tired and fed up with being preached to and derided by Hollywood. I so long for the Hollywood of the past that was proud to be part of America.

I've already said that I'd go see the movie, but if this reviewer and the gut feeling that I've had is correct, it may well be the last one that I go see.

It's not really like that. This is someone trying to make something more out of it than it really is... People in the film ARE depicted as being A-holes, and they do appear to be 'Americans' and I suppose the international audience could be affected to a degree, but what I got from it, was don't be a "corporate" a-hole...or don't be an a-hole at all.

I don't want to say too much because it would ruin the film for you...

It's typical hollywood fare really... I mean, "someone" has to be the bad guy... in a film with American characters, the bad guy AND the good guy are American's.

Remember in RAMBO the cop was the bad guy...

The news snippet you posted, is sensationalism.... EXCATLY like I was talking to you on the phone about the other day. Someone has 'interpreted' the film the way they 'desired' to so that they would have something to write about, just to stir the stink.

Relax, go see the movie and enjoy it. It's really pretty good.

MAKE SURE TO SEE IT IN 3D @ IMAX.
